EMPIRE 8 ANNOUNCES WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD HONORS
Sophomore Lauren Glaser named Sportswoman of the Year

ROCHESTER, N.Y (February 28, 2007)— Sophomore Lauren Glaser (pictured) was named Sportswoman of the Year at the 2007 Empire 8 Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championship held in conjunction with the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championships.

Glaser, of Huntington, N.Y. and a graduate of Huntington High School, broke her former school record by almost five seconds and placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.82. Glaser also earned 1st team honors in the 1600-meter relay which finished in 4:11.43. In addition to Glaser, the 1600-meter relay team consisted of juniors Jennifer Giebel, Jessica Brown, freshman Jenna Porter. Glaser also helped the Distance Medley Relay team earn second-team all-conference honors after the team placed second to RIT by less than two seconds. The DMR team consisted of Brown, Giebel, and junior Ashley Hughes in addition to Glaser.

Porter received additional second-team honors in the 55-meter sprint after placing second with a time of 7.75 seconds. Freshman Melissa Cutcliffe received second-team Empire 8 honors in the pentathlon after accumulating 2,617 points.

One member of each team was named that institution’s representative on the 2006-07 Women’s Track and Field Sportsman of the Year Team. Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. Glaser was Nazareth’s sportswoman of the year representative.
