GOLDEN FLYERS COMPETE AT UR MEET
Cutcliffe and Egmond tie school records

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 28, 2007) – Freshmen Melissa Cutcliffe and Jill Egmond each tied a school record Saturday as the Nazareth track and field teams competed at the University of Rochester. Cutcliffe tied the school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.21 seconds to place second while Egmond tied a school record in the pole vault as she finished second with a vault of 2.75 meters (9 ft, ¼ in.)

No team scores were kept but Nazareth had a number of other top performers. Juniors Jessica Brown and Ashley Hughes placed third and sixth in the 800-meter run with times of 4:58.79 and 5:12.24 respectively. Freshman Jenna Porter and sophomore Lauren Glaser each ran well in the 400-meter dash as they finished in 1:00.80 and 1:01.42, which put them in first and third place respectively. In addition to Cutcliffe’s success in the 100-meter race, she finished in seventh place in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.79. Freshman Elizabeth Way finished in 10th place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:16.95.

In field events, freshmen Emily Tierney and Elizabeth Way placed third and sixth respectively in the triple jump. Tierney’s jump was 9.65 meters (31ft, 8in) while Way jumped 9.17 meters (30 ft, 1 in). Junior Meredith Coon finished in sixth place in the shot put with a throw of 9.75 meters (32 ft.). In the long jump, Cutcliffe placed seventh with a jump of 4.55 meters (14ft, 11 1/4in) followed by Tierney in 10th place with a jump of 4.36 meters (14ft, 33/4in).

In the men’s meet, junior Nick Stenuf won the 800-meter run in 1:53.54 and placed second in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:57.72. Junior Aaron Sirtoli also competed in the 1500 and finished in ninth place with a time of 4:12.07. Freshmen Jon Qazi and Matt Case competed in the 100-meter dash and placed second and eighth with times of 11.52 and 11.91 respectively. Case and Qazi also both placed well in the 200-meter dash. Case finished in fifth place with a time of 23.73 seconds while Qazi finished just behind him in sixth place with a time of 23.90. Junior Chris McBride finished in 10th place with a time of 24.42 seconds while sophomore Dave Patalano finished in sixth place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:17.17.

In field events, sophomore Brandon Wheeler finished second in the high jump with a jump of 1.78 meters (5ft, 10 in). Wheeler also competed in the long jump and placed fourth with a jump of 5.45 meters (17ft, 103/4in) He was followed by McBride in sixth place with a jump of 5.15 meters (16 ft, 103/4in). Freshman Jeremy Chapline finished in eighth place in the discus with a throw of 35.38 meters (116 ft, 1in).

Nazareth will host the Empire 8/NYSCTC Multis championships April 29 and 30. Senior Craig Connelly is the only Golden Flyer competing in the multis but a number of Nazareth athletes will compete in the Empire 8/NYSCTC individual championships May 4 and 5 at Brockport.
