BROCKPORT,
N.Y. (May 5, 2007) -- Nazareth junior Nick Stenuf
(pictured) was a double winner Saturday for the
Golden Flyers' track and field team as he finished
first in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs at the
NYSCTC Track and Field Championships at SUNY Brockport.
Stenuf, an All-American in 2006 in the 800-meter
run, shattered his own school record in the 1,500
with a winning time of 3:53.53 to provisionally
qualify for the NCAA Division III meet later this
month. He won the 800 in 1:53.89.
Nazareth finished eighth in the team standings
with 53 points. The women's team finished 12th
with 26 points.
Other top performances were turned in by sophomore
Brandon Wheeler, who finished second in the 400-meter
dash with a school record time of :48.93; junior
Aaron Sirtoli, who finished fourth in the 3,000-meter
steeplechase in 9:27.67, breaking his own record;
sophomore Robby Castor, who finished sixth in
the 400-meter hurdles (:56.90); and junior Brendan
Epstein, who placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run
(15:30.83).
Nazareth also finished second in the 4 x 400-meter
relay with a record time of 3:21.80. Team members
were Castor, Wheeler, freshman Matt Case and senior
Craig Connelly. Nazareth also bettered its own
school record in the 4 x 100-meter relay as Jon
Qazi, Case, Justin Branks and Chris McBride finished
seventh in :44.20.
On Friday, Nazareth broke a record in the 4 x
800-meter relay with the foursome of Connelly,
Sirtoli, Castor and Stenuf crossing the finish
line in 7:56.17.
In
the women's meet, freshman Jenna Porter placed
third in the 400-meter dash with a school record
time of :59.73. She also anchored two record-setting
relays. Nazareth was 10th in the 4 x 100-meter
relay (:51.37) with the team of Amanda Gatch,
Jennifer Giebel, Melissa Cutcliffe and Porter.
In the 4 x 400-meter relay, Nazareth was fifth
(4:05.74) behind Giebel, Jessica Brown, Lauren
Glaser (pictured) and Porter.
Other record-breaking performances were turned
in by Glaser, sixth place in the 800-meter run
(2:20.19); Brown, third place in the 1,500-meter
run (4:52.47); and junior Ashley Hughes, sixth
in the 5,000-meter run (10:02.91).
On Friday, Hughes, Brown and Glaser ran on the
record-setting 4 x 800-meter relay (9:47.29) that
also included freshman Shannon Bradley.
