N.Y. (May 18, 2007) -- Nazareth junior Nick Stenuf
(East Syracuse-Minoa HS/East Syracuse, NY) provisionally
qualified for a trip to next week's NCAA Division
III Track and Field Championships Friday with
a third-place finish in the 800-meter run at the
ECAC Championships at SUNY Oneonta.
Stenuf posted a time of 1:53.02 to finish third
behind Hamilton's Peter Kosgei (1:52.04) and Frostburg
State's Brian Leiter (1:52.24). Stenuf won the
event last year in 1:50.83 and went on to place
third in the 800 and earn All-America honors at
the NCAA meet.
Stenuf also has provisionally qualified in the
1,500-meter run after setting a school record
and winning that event in 3:53.53 at the NYSCTC
Championships at Brockport May 5.
Next week's NCAA meet will be held at Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
In other events, sophomore Brendan Wheeler (Penn
Yan Academy/Penn Yan, NY) finished fourth in the
400-meter dash (:48.93) and junior Aaron Sirtoli
was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:39.01).
Nazareth also set a record in the 4 x 100-meter
relay (:44.07) with the team of Jon Qazi (Avon
HS/Avon, NY), Matt Case (C.W. Bkaer HS/Baldwinsville,
NY), Justin Banks (Christian Brothers Academy/Syracuse,
NY) and Chris McBride (Penfield HS/Penfield, NY).
Junior Brendan Epstein (Moravia HS/Moravia, NY)
finished seventh in the 5,000-meter run (15:34.64).
In the women's meet, sophomore Lauren Glaser
(pictured, Huntington HS/Huntington, NY) broke
her own school record with a third-place finish
in the 800-meter run (2:18.63). Freshman Jenna
Porter (Alexander HS/Batavia, NY) competed in
three events and set records in the 100- and 200-meter
dashes. She finished eighth in the 100 in :13.26
seconds, but went slightly faster in the prelims
(:13.10). She was 16th in the 200 (:27.08) and
13th in the 400-meter dash (:60.07).
Junior Jessica Brown (Oxford Academy/Oxford,
NY) also broke her own record in the 1,500-meter
run (4:50.79).
