Stenuf named Athlete of the Meet; Case named Rookie of the Meet

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (May 9, 2007) – Junior Nick Stenuf was named Athlete of the Meet while freshman Matt Case was named Rookie of the Meet for Nazareth at the 2007 Men's Track and Field Championships hosted by SUNY Brockport May 4-5.

Stenuf won the state and conference titles for the second year in a row in the 800-meter run as he finished Saturday’s race in 1:53.89. He set the Empire 8 record and won the state title in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:53.53, which provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Division III meet later this month.

Case was named Rookie of the Meet after earning first-team all-conference honors in the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.57 seconds and 22.99 seconds respectively. Case was also a member of two relays that received first-team all-conference honors. In the 400-meter relay, which placed first in the conference in :44.20 seconds, Case was joined by freshmen Jon Qazi and Justin Banks, and junior Chris McBride. In the 1,600-meter relay, which finished in 3:21.80, he was joined by sophomores Robby Castor and Brandon Wheeler, and senior Craig Connelly.

Wheeler was recognized individually with first-team honors in the 400-meter dash, which he finished in :48.79 seconds. He received second-team honors in the high jump with a jump of 1.85 meters. Junior Aaron Sirtoli received first-team all-conference honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:27.67, which bettered his school record by over six seconds. Castor received second-team honors in the 400-meter hurdles as he finished in :56.90 seconds, just .52 seconds out of first place in the conference.
