N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2006) -- Nazareth breezed to a pair
of Empire 8 Conference Tournament victories Saturday
and will meet top-seeded Ithaca Sunday for the
conference championship.
The Golden Flyers, seeded second, defeated seventh-seeded
Elmira, 9-0, in their morning match and then disposed
of third-seeded St. John Fisher, 8-1, in the afternoon
semifinal. That sets up a Sunday matchup with
Ithaca, which defeated Utica and RIT. The title
match will be played at 12 noon at RIT.
In Saturday's matches, Stephanie Parvan (pictured),
Rachel Leonard, Betsy O'Brien and Jackie Martinez
each won two singles matches -- all in straight
sets. In doubles, Parvan and leonard teamed up
for two victories at first doubles and Martinez
and Jessica Faber won twice at second doubles.
The tandem of Ellen Austin and Kathryn Cross won
against Elmira, 8-3, and the duo of O'Brien and
Emily McAdoo won 8-6 against Fisher.
