LEONARD, PARVAN EARN ALL-CONFERENCE

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2006) -- Sophomores Stephanie Parvan (far right) and Rachel Leonard, who played first and second singles respectively for the Golden Flyers' women's tennis team this fall, have been named as first-team all-stars in the Empire 8 Conference. Parvan and Leonard also were selected as a first-team doubles tandem.

The all-conference teams were chosen through voting among the league's eight head coaches. Nazareth freshman Jackie Martinez also was selected to the second team as a singles player. Senior Emily McAdoo was Nazareth's representative as E8 Sportswoman of the Year.

Parvan, of Fairport, N.Y. and a graduate of Fairport High School, is a repeat selection to the first team. She had an overall singles record of 10-6 this fall and teamed with Leonard for an 11-4 doubles record. Leonard, of Palmyra, N.Y. and a graduate of Palmyra-Macedon High School, had a singles record of 14-1 with her only loss coming at the ITA Championships.

Martinez, of Cortland, N.Y. and a graduate of Homer High School, played mostly fourth singles for the Golden Flyers in 2006 and produced an 11-2 record and closed the regular season with nine straight wins.

McAdoo, of Geneva, N.Y. and a graduate of Geneva High School, was named Nazareth’s representative on the 2006 Women’s Tennis Sportswoman of the Year Team. Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
