Nazareth alum Paul Waida became head coach of the Golden Flyers’
men’s and women’s tennis teams in January of 2005, following
the retirement of long-time coach Annette Shapiro.
He guided the men’s team to an overall record of 8-6 last
spring and a third-place finish in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament.
The Golden Flyers followed that up with a 9-6 record in 2006 and
a second-place finish in the E8 Tournament. He also guided the women's
team to a 10-7 dual meet record in '05-06 and a second-place finish
in the E8 Tournament.
A Rochester native, Waida is a 1989 Nazareth graduate and played
tennis for four seasons. He was Shapiro’s assistant coach
for the last three seasons.
Waida
has been head tennis coach at Pittsford Sutherland High School since
1996 and is part owner of Tennis Heaven, a private tennis and swimming
club in Pittsford. Waida also has experience as a teaching professional
at Monroe Golf Club, the University of Rochester, the Harley School
and Mendon Ponds Tennis and Swim Club.
Waida has a degree in Studio Art and is a K-12 certified teacher.
