GOLDEN FLYERS DROPS CLOSE MATCH WITH ALFRED, 5-4

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Oct. 2, 2004) -- Visiting Alfred won the first three singles matches and also captured the first doubles match Saturday and went on to take a 5-4 victory over Nazareth in women's tennis.

Alfred Alicia Ballard defeated Nazareth's Angela Tessoni in a close match at first singles, winning 3-6, 6-4, then 10-8 in a tiebreaker. Nazareth's Ann Kucheryavenko also dropped a third set teibreaker at third singles to Alfred's Jodi Butterfoss.

Nazareth got singles wins from Betsy O'Brien (pictured) at fourth singles and Eileen Slifer at sixth singles. Tessoni and Kucheryavenko teamed for a victory at second doubles, then Liz Zimmerli and Kathryn Cross combined to win a point at third doubles.
