N.Y. (April 17, 2007) -- Visiting Nazareth won
a battle of unbeaten Empire 8 Conference teams
in men's tennis Tuesday as the Golden Flyers won
all three doubles matches and five of six singles
contests in an 8-1 victory over St. John Fisher.
Nazareth improved to 8-5 overall and 5-0 in
the Empire 8. Fisher is 6-9 overall and 4-1 in
conference matches.
Nazareth's Andre Putyera won at first singles
7-6, 6-2 and teamed with junior Jon Weaver to
win 9-7 at first doubles. Weaver also won his
second singles match 6-3, 6-4.
Junior Terrance Nichols, sophomore Greg Bohneberg
(pictured) and freshman Steve Trobert also won
at both singles and doubles. Nichols needed an
11-9
tiebreaker
to win his third singles match after dropping
the first set 6-7 and rallying to win the second
set 6-4. Bohneberg and Trobert each won in straight
sets at fourth and fifth singles respectively.
Bohneberg teamed with Jerry Stocker to win 8-5
at second doubles and Nichols combined with Trobert
for 9-8 win at third doubles.
Nazareth is scheduled to play at Alfred Wednesday
at 4 p.m. |
