PITTSFORD, N.Y. (April 23, 2006) -- Second-seeded Ithaca avenged an earlier regular-season defeat Sunday as the Bombers captured the Empire 8 Conference championship with a 5-2 victory over Nazareth at Tennis Heaven.

The Bombers secured a key point by winning two of the three doubles matches. Ithaca clinched the match by winning four of the six singles matches.

Freshman Greg Bohneberg (pictured) and sophomore Terrance Nichols earned Nazareth's points with victories at third and fifth singles respectively. Bohneberg won 6-0, 6-1 over Mike Abitbol and Nichols outlasted the Bombers' Joe Young 6-7, 7-6, 10-6.

In doubles, Nichols and Ryan Weaver teamed up for an 8-3 win at second doubles, but Nazareth lost the first and third doubles matches to lose the point. Ciolino and Flynn combined to defeat Putyera and Jon Weaver at first doubles, 8-5. At third doubles, Ithaca's Jeff Buffum and Kento Kamiyama defeated Nazareth's tandem of Bohneberg and Kurt Meichtry, 8-2.
