ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (Sept. 18, 2005) -- Nazareth
salvaged a third-place finish at the annual Flower
City Tournament for men's tennis over the weekend
as the Golden Flyers edged Ithaca in a consolation
match, 4-2.
Nazareth
won the first three singles matches -- each in
three sets to solidify the victory. Freshman Ryan
Weaver (pictured) rallied to win at first singles
5-7, 7-6, 6-1. At second singles, senior Andre
Putyera won 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 and sophomore Jon Weaver
won at third singles 4-6, 6-1, 7-6. Sophomore
Terrance Nichols won more comfortably at fifth
singles, taking a straight-set triumph 6-3, 6-4.
Nazareth
defeated RIT, 6-0, in Saturday's opening round,
then lost to St. Lawrence in the semifinals, 5-2.
University of Rochester won the championship with
a 7-0 win over St. Lawrence in the finals.
