Nazareth freeshman finishes 11-5 in singles

ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (May 1, 2006) -- Nazareth freshman Ryan Weaver
(pictured), who posted an 11-5 record at second
singles for the Golden Flyers this spring, has
been named Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year
through voting conducted by the league's men's
tennis coaches.
Weaver, of Palmyra, N.Y. and a graduate of Palmyra-Macedon
High School, also was a first-team all-conference
selection for singles and doubles. He was joined
on the first team for singles by fellow freshman
Greg Bohneberg (Lockport HS/Lockport, NY). Sophomore
Terrance Nichols (Henninger HS/Syracuse, NY) was
Weaver's doubles partner who also made the first
team.
Nichols also was a second-team selection for
singles and Bohneberg and senior Kurt Meichtry
(LaSalle HS/Wynantskill, NY) made the second team
for doubles. In addition, senior Andre Putyera
(Jamesville-DeWitt HS/Syracuse, NY) was Nazareth's
conference representative as Sportsman of the
Year.
Weaver and Nichols posted a record of 12-3 for
Nazareth at second doubles, while Bohneberg and
Meichtry were 10-4 at third doubles. Bohneberg
went 9-5 in singles while Nichols went 11-5.
