UTICA,
N.Y. (Jan. 27, 2007) -- Nazareth's men's and women’s
swim teams defeated the Utica Pioneers Saturday.
The women won 179-103 to remain undefeated at
10-0. The men's team won its second meet of the
season to improve to 2-8.
The Golden Flyers had six double winners for
multiple events. Freshman Courtney Pilc (pictured,
Batavia, Batavia HS) got first place in the women’s
500 and 1000 yard freestyle with the times of
5:43.15 and 12:26.12 respectively. Junior Meghan
Okoniewski also won two events-- the 100 yard
backstroke (1:06) and the 200 yard backstroke
(2:23.70). Other swimmers that placed first included
graduate student Amy Mehltretter, junior Kate
Kukan, sophomore Suzanne Flynn, and freshmen Lauren
Danis, Jeanne Falco, Lauren McKinney and Heather
Tomaski.
Double
winners in the men’s meet included senior
Tim Baker (pictured) who competed in the 50 yard
freestyle (23.36) and the 100 yard freestyle (51.72).
Junior Jon Campbell placed first in the 100 backstroke
(1:05.78) and the 200 yard IM (2:12.17). Freshman
Rob Wortel won the 200 freestyle (1:58.14) and
the 500 yard freestyle (5:34.02). Winning the
100 yard backstroke in 59.63 sec and the 200 yard
backstroke in 2:11.49 was freshman RC Weston.
Junior Karl Kolkmann and Michael Fritz also won
events for the men’s team.
Both the men's and women's teams travel to RIT
February 3 for a 1:00 p.m. meet. The women's team
will be looking to finish its second consecutive
season undefeated.
