CANTON,
N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2004) -- Nazareth won 10 of 13
events Saturday in a women's swimming and diving
meet at St. Lawrence University as the Golden
Flyers defeated two teams to remain unbeaten at
3-0. The Golden Flyers outpointed St. Lawrence
75-54 and Skidmore 91-32.
In the men's meet, the Golden Flyers split with
the same two teams. The Golden Flyers defeated
Skidmore 78-43 and lost to St. Lawrence 71-55.
In the women's meet, junior Aubrey Kirchoff was
a winner in three individual races -- the 200
freestyle (2:02.41), the 100 breaststroke (1:12.66),
and the 200 IM (2:23.09). Freshman Emily Lesher
(pictured) and sophomore Amy Mehltretter each
won two races. Lesher was first in the 100 butterfly
(1:02.10) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.59). Mehltretter
won the 500- and 1,000 freestyles in 5:25.48 and
11:00.17 respectively.
Other winners were freshman Meghan Okoniewski
in the 100 freestyle (:56.99) and freshman Lauren
Fuqua in 3-meter diving (215.90). Okoniewski also
anchored the winning 200 free relay team that
also included Elizabeth Walsh, Jennifer Dahm,
and Lindsay Slocum.
In the men's meet, junior Matt Muratore won two
events -- the 500 freestyle (5:25.42) and the
1,000 freestyle (11:02.43). Junior Derek Ortiz
also finished first in both diving events.
Nazareth's first home meet is Friday against
Brockport and Wells at 6 p.m.
