ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2004) -- Host Nazareth won 10 of
13 individual events Friday aas the Golden Flyers
recorded a pair of victories in women's swimming
and diving. Nazareth defeated Brockport, 76-36,
and Wells College, 85-19. The wins boosted Nazareth's
dual meet record to 5-0.
Freshman Emily Lesher (pictured) continued her
impressive pace by shattering a school record
in the 400-meter freestyle by more than five seconds.
She also was part of Nazareth's victorious 200-meter
medley relay team.
Lesher had a time of 4:37.23 in the 400 free
to eclipse the old record of 4:42.69 held by Jen
Taets since 1999. Lesher's time was less than
a second off the pool record of 4:36.87 that has
stood since 1987.
Other Nazareth winners were: Jen Migliore in
the 800 freestyle (10:17.33); Meghan Okoniewski
in the 200 freestyle (2:23.76); Margaret Bowen
in the 50 freestyle (:30.30); Sarah DuFour in
the 100 fly (1:12.66); Amy Mehltretter in the
100 freestyle (1:04.86); Caitlin Howlett in the
100 backstroke (1:18.71); and Lauren Fuqua in
3-meter diving (206.40).
Lesher was joined in the 200 medley relay by
DuFour, Okoniewski, and Kate Kukan. Bowen and
Mehltretter participated in the 200 free relay
that also included Elizabeth Walsh and Jennifer
Dahm.
In the men's meet, Nazareth lost to Brockport,
144-83, despite first-place finishes by Tom Mitchell
in the 800 freestyle (10:00.11); Chris Fello in
the 100 backstroke (1:08.75), Matt Muratore in
the 400 freestyle (4:45.89), and Derek Ortiz in
1-meter diving (159.15).
