ALFRED,
N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2004) -- Junior Aubrey Kirchoff
(pictured) won three individual events Saturday,
including a record-breaking effort in the 200-yard
butterfly, to lift Nazareth to a 151-90 victory
over Alfred University in women's swimming and
diving. Alfred defeated Nazareth in the men's
meet, 128-98.
Kirchoff, an All-American at Oswego two years
ago, transferred to Nazareth this fall. She had
an immediate impact against Alfred by finishing
first in the 200 freestyle and the 200 breaststroke
in addition to the butterfly. Her time of 2:16.10
in the 200 fly broke a 16-year-old school record
by more than a second.
Nazareth also received strong performances from
freshmen Emily Lesher and Meghan Okoniewski and
sophomore Amy Mehltretter. Lesher won the 200
IM and the 200 backstroke and was part of the
winning 400 medley relay team. Okoniewski and
Mehltretter each participated in the 400 free
relay team that finished first. In addition, Okoniewski
won the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle and
Mehltretter won the 1000 freestyle and the 500
freestyle.
In the men's meet, junior Tom Mitchell placed
second in the 200 freestyle and Tim Baker was
third in both the 50 and 100 freestyles.
Nazareth competes again Saturday at St. Lawrence
at 1 p.m.
