GOLDEN FLYERS FINISH 11TH AT STATE MEET

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Feb 24, 2007) -- Nazareth's men's swimming and diving team finished in 11th place at the conclusion of the Upper New York State Swimming and Diving Championships contested at Nottingham High School.

Alfred University finished first in the team standings with 1,245 points, followed by Hartwick with 1,150. Nazareth was 11th in the 14-team field with 289 points. Nazareth finished fifth in the Empire 8 meet, which was held within the state meet.

Among Saturday's highlights for the Golden Flyers was a 10th-place finish by the 400 freestyle relay team with a time of 3:20.88. Senior Tim Baker (Weedsport HS/Weedsport, NY) led off the relay and was followed by junior Jon Campbell (Cicero-North Syracuse HS/North Syracuse, NY), sophomore Jacques Tardie (Ellsworth HS/Ellsworth, ME) and freshman Rob Wortel (Cicero-North Syracuse HS/North Syracuse, NY).

Sophomore Mike Fritz (Niskayuna HS/Niskayuna, NY) swam well in the 200 breaststroke, placing 12th with a time of 2:19.05. Campbell finished 15th in the same event with a time of 2:20.16.

Baker (pictured) closed out his Nazareth career with a 17th-place finish in the 100 freestyle (:49.58). Freshman R.C. Weston (Midlakes HS/Phelps, NY) finished 18th in the 200 backstroke (2:05.50).
