Nazareth tops Utica, 113-59, for second win

N.Y. (Jan. 31, 2004) -- Nazareth's men's swimming
and diving team came back strong Saturday following
a close loss at Penn State Behrend Friday to secure
its second victory of the season by defeating
Empire 8 Conference rival Utica, 113-59.
On Friday in Eria, Pa., the Golden Flyers lost
to Penn State Behrend 108-101.
Against the Utica, the Golden Flyers won nine
of the 13 events to improve to 2-8 overall. Sophomores
Chris Fello and Matt Muratore (pictured) each
won two individual events. Fell captured the 200
freestyle (2:13.44) and the 200 backstroke (2:38.45).
Muratore won the 800 freestyle (9:28.50) and the
100 freestyle (1:00.31).
Other winners were freshman Tim Baker in the
50 freestyle (:27.22), sophomore Dan Paganin in
the 200 butterfly (2:37.60), and sophomore Derek
Ortiz in 1-meter diving (151.65). Baker and Paganin
also were members of the winning 400-meter medley
relay team that included Paul Osetek and Justin
Montemarano.
In Friday's meet, junior Mike Bond won both diving
events and Fello won the 200 IM (2:14.59). Paganin
also captured the 100 butterfly (:59.12).
Nazareth swims again Saturday at home against
RIT at 1 p.m.
