NAZARETH BATTLES TO 1-1 TIE AT WILLIAM SMITH
Golden Flyers now 6-4-2 overall

GENEVA, N.Y. (Oct. 14, 2006) –
Senior midfielder Jessemyn Russell (pictured) scored the game-tying goal in the second half as visiting Nazareth battled to a 1-1 tie with William Smith in women's soccer.

The non-conference game, played at William Smith's Cozzens Field, moved Nazareth's overall record to 6-4-2. William Smith, which had won the previous eight meeting with Nazareth, is 9-3-1 overall.

"It's not a bad result," said Nazareth Coach Gail Mann. "This has always been a tough place for us to play, so I'm not unhappy with a tie."

The host Herons held a decisive edge in shots, 21-6 (including 7-1 in overtime), but Russell netted her second goal of the season in the 63rd minute off an assist from Julie Birbilis to square the match at 1-1. William Smith took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute as Katie Compton converted a penalty kick.

Junior goalie Shannon Burns made eight saves for the Golden Flyers, while William Smith's Nikki Dudley was credited with three saves.

Nazareth is home Wednesday fr another non-conference game against the University of Rochester at 4 p.m.
