ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Oct. 18, 2006) -- Junior goalie Shannon Burns (pictured) made a career-high 12 saves for Nazareth Wednesday as the Golden Flyers battled to a 0-0 tie with visiting University of Rochester in women's soccer.

The results was the second straight tie for the Golden Flyers, who saw their record move to 6-4-3 overall. Nazareth also played to a 1-1 tie at William Smith last Saturday. The Yellowjackets, ranked 13th nationally in Division III, are 9-1-3.

"I thought that it was a very even game," said Nazareth Coach Gail Mann. "UR had the better of the play in the first half, but in the second half and the overtime periods we created some very good opportunities and controlled the play."

The starting backfield for the Golden Flyers included seniors Amanda Prosser, Jessica Rogers and Kim Yancone and sophomores Emily Zurschmit and Ashley Clinton. The shutout was the fifth of the season for Burns.

The Yellowjackets had a 23-10 edge in shots, including a 9-1 advantage in the first half. UR's best scoring chance came in the 26th minute when a shot by Amy Thompson caromed off the crossbar. The rebound came out to Eileen Boylan, whose header was saved by Burns.

Another chance came with about 10 minutes to play in regulation when Tammy Brewster broke free for a semi-breakaway. Her shot was contested by Zurschmit and ultimately saved again by Burns.

Nazareth's best scoring chances came in the second overtime as Rachel Cushman had one shot sail over the crossbar and another that went wide right. UR's Laura Morrison also had two shots in the second overtime, but Burns saved both.

Nazareth returns to action Saturday for an Empire 8 Conference game at Elmira at 2 p.m.
