ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2006) –
St. Lawrence's Kristen Bednar scored the game-winner with :51 left in the first overtime period Saturday as the visiting Saints defeated Nazareth in women's soccer, 2-1.

It was St. Lawrence's first victory ever in women's soccer over the Golden Flyers, who had gone 7-0-2 in nine previous meetings. The Saints improved to 5-4-1 overall. Nazareth fell to 5-4.

The game was tied 1-1 after 90 minutes of regulation, but St. Lawrence had the only two shots of the overtime with Bednar scoring the game-winner following a crossing pass from the right wing by Megan Howard. Howard's pass crossed through the goal mouth and over the head of Nazareth keeper Polly Muehlenkamp. Bednar was on the goal line to knock the ball into the net.

Nazareth tied the score at 1-1 in the second half on an unassisted goal by sophomore Kelly Finn (pictured). The Golden Flyers outshot St. Lawrence 18-9 overall, including 10-2 in the second half, but the Golden Flyers could not get the go-ahead goal as St. Lawrence goalie Carly Draper made eight saves.

St. Lawrence took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute on a goal by Luren Annaldo, who deflected a corner kick off the foot of Stanzi McGlynn.

Shannon Burns played the first 45 minutes in goal for Nazareth and made two saves. Muehlenkamp came on in the second half and saw her first action of the season.

Nazareth plays again Wednesday at RIT at 4 p.m.
