SKIDMORE RALLIES TO EDGE NAZARETH, 2-1
Golden Flyers suffer first loss

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Sept. 9, 2006) –
Visiting Skidmore scored twice in less than two minutes in the second half Saturday to rally past Nazareth for a 2-1 non-conference victory in women's soccer.

The loss was the first of the season for the Golden Flyers (3-1), who were ranked 20th in Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Skidmore won for the first time and now stands at 1-1-1 overall.

Nazareth got an unassisted goal from sophomore Kelly Finn (Homer HS/Cortland, NY, pictured) in the 39th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Skidmore's Anna Cerio (Alfred-Almond HS/Alfred, NY), however, got credit for both Thoroughbred goals to fuel the comeback.

After Nazareth goalie Shannon Burns saved an initial shot by Skidmore's Rachel Sushner, Cerio knocked in the rebound to tie the score at 1-1 at 55:41. Less than two minutes later, at 57:20, Cerio scored again as she one-touched a shot past Burns after receiving a direct kick from teammate Jessica Morten.

Skidmore had a 12-11 edge in shots and Burns was ciredited with seven saves in goal for the Golden Flyers. Liza Mills (Ward Melville HS/Setauket, NY) had five saves for the Thoroughbreds.

Nazareth returns to action Tuesday for its first road game of the season -- at Geneseo at 4 p.m.
