ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (Sept. 27, 2006) -- Nazareth's Caroline Parsons
(pictured) scored a goal and added an assist Wednesday
to lift visiting Nazareth to a 3-1 victory over
St. John Fisher in women's soccer.
The victory, at Fisher's Growney
Stadium, was Nazareth's first of the season in
Empire 8 Conference play against two losses. The
Golden Flyers improved to 5-3 overall. Fisher
is 5-3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Nazareth has won the last 14 meetings
with St. John Fisher in women's soccer, dating
back to 1993. Nazareth is now 17-2-1 against the
Cardinals overall.
Parsons' first goal of the season
at 15:30, off an assist from Rosie Simiele, broke
a two-game scoring drought for the Golden Flyers,
who had suffered shutout losses to Utica and Ithaca
in conference play.
Simiele also assisted on Nazareth's
second goal, scored by sophomore Sandi Toth in
the 37th minute. Nazareth went up 3-0 early in
the second half on Rachel Cushman's third goal
of the season off a pass from Parsons, who had
kept the ball in play along the endline.
Fisher avoided the shutout about
five minutes later as Alyssa MacLachlan scored
her first goal of the season.
Nazareth received four saves in
goal from keeper Shannon Burns, who played all
90 minutes. The Golden Flyers are home Saturday
to host St. Lawrence in a non-league game at 2
p.m.
