NAMED GOALIE OF THE WEEK
ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (Nov. 7, 2006) -- Rosie Simiele, a senior
midfielder on the Nazareth women's soccer team,
has been named Empire 8 Conference Player of the
Week for the seven-day period that ended Nov.
4. She earns the honor for the second week in
a row.
Simiele is a Syracuse native and graduate of
Solvay High School. She ended Wednesday’s
Empire 8 Conference semifinal game with Ithaca
by heading in a pass with less than seven minutes
remaining in the second overtime to give Nazareth
a 1-0 victory and a spot in the conference championship
game. On Saturday, she assisted on the game-winning
goal by Kelly Finn early in the first overtime
to give the Golden Flyers a 2-1 victory over Utica
for the conference title. The victory gave the
Golden Flyers a berth in the NCAA tournament for
the seventh time but the first since 2002.
Simiele has been Nazareth’s leading scorer
through the 2006 season. She has 21 points on
seven goals and seven assists. as she has recorded
seven goals and seven assists for a total of 21
points.
The Golden Flyers travel to Elizabethtown, Pa.
Saturday to play Montclair State of New Jersey
in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at 1
p.m.
