ELIZABETHTOWN,
Pa. (Nov. 11, 2006) -- Montclair State freshman
Natalia Sisti scored the game's only goal in the
56th minute Saturday as Montclair State of New
Jersey defeated Nazareth, 1-0, in the first round
of the NCAA Division III Tournament for women's
soccer.
Montclair State (13-6-3) will
play again Sunday at 2 p.m. against host
Elizabethtown, a 3-2 winner over Richard Stockton
in Saturday's second game. Nazareth's season
ends at 9-7-3.
"We played probably one
of our best game of the season, but we just
couldn't finish,"
said Nazareth Coach Gail Mann. "It's sad
that our season ended this way."
Nazareth had a 9-2 shot advantage
in the first half and an 18-10 edge overall, but
the Golden Flyers were unable to score on Montclair
State goalkeeper Kristin Kuhmann, who made seven
saves for the shutout. Junior goalie Shannon Burns
(pictured) made four saves for the Golden Flyers.
Montclair State took advantage
of an errant Nazareth goal kick as Lara Kaminsky
was able to gather the loose ball and feed Sisti,
who broke in alone on Burns for the winning goal. |
