BURNS NAMED EMPIRE 8 GOALIE OF THE WEEK

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Nov. 7, 2006) -- Shannon Burns, a junior goalie on the Nazareth College women's soccer team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Goalie of the Week for the seven-day period ending Nov. 4, 2006. It marks the third time this season that Burns has been honored by the Empire 8.

Burns, a native of Albany, N.Y. and a graduate of Colonie High School, recorded her sixth shutout of the season last Wednesday as she made five saves in a 1-0 win against Ithaca in the E8 Conference semifinal game. Burns made 11 stops in the onference championship game against Utica last Saturday as Nazareth won the E8 title with a 2-1 overtime victory. The victory gave the Golden Flyers a berth in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2002.

Burns has played well throughout the 2006 season with 92 saves and a 0.91 goals-against average.

The Golden Flyers travel to Elizabethtown, Pa. Saturday to play Montclair State of New Jersey in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at 1 p.m.
