ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Sept. 16, 2006) – Visiting
Ithaca used a second-half goal from senior Hugo
Valencia (Shelburne, VT) to hand Nazareth its
first defeat of the season in men's soccer Saturday
as the Bombers prevailed, 1-0, at Golden Flyer
Stadium.
Nazareth had opened the season with five straight
victories before Ithaca won the Empire 8 Conference
opening game for both teams. Ithaca, which has
not yielded a goal yet this season improved to
4-0-1 overall.
Nazareth had a 14-9 edge in shots, but the Bombers
made one of their five second-half shots count
as Valencia fired a shot through a maze of players
and under the arm of Nazareth goalie Alex Kilroy
(Spencerport HS/Spencerport, NY) at 61:07. Junior
Ryan Cole (Liverpool, NY) was credited with the
assist.
Ithaca goalkeeper Andy Wilhelm (Ellicott City,
MD) made four saves to gain the shutout. Kilroy
had three saves for the Golden Flyers, who visit
the University of Rochester Tuesday at 7 p.m.
for a non-conference game. |
