STATS ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2006) – Host Rochester netted
the game-winning goal in the 71st minute Tuesday
as the 24th-ranked Yellowjackets defeated Nazareth
in men's soccer, 2-1, at Fauver Stadium.
The loss was the second in a row for the Golden
Flyers, who opened the season with five straight
wins. Rochester improved to 4-1-1 overall.
Rochester dominated the game statistically, but
Nazareth took advantage of one of the few opportunities
it had in the first half as sophomore Justin Stevens
(pictured) scored his team-leading fourth goal
of the season in the 29th minute to tie the score
at 1-1. Paul Pacitto gained an an assist as he
crossed the ball from the right wing and Stevens
one-touched it into the goal.
Rochester had taken a 1-0 advantage on a goal
by Sean Hantes at 13:36 and the Yellowjackets
looked dominating at time in outshooting Nazarreth
11-1 in the first half. After Stevens' goal tied
the score, UR got the game-winner from Tyler Green,
who headed in his sixth goal of the season off
a pass from Jeremy Mann.
Rochester's shooting overall shooting advantage
was 21-3 and Nazareth senior Alex Kilroy was called
upon to make seven saves.
Nazareth resumes its Empire 8 Conference schedule
Saturday with a game at Elmira at 3 p.m.
