N.Y. (Nov. 7, 2006) -- Philip Holmberg, a freshman
midfielder on the Nazareth men’s soccer
team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Player
of the Week for the seven-day period that ended
Nov. 4, 2006.
Holmberg is from Malmo, Sweden, and scored the
only goal of the match on Saturday as Nazareth
defeated top-seeded RIT in the Empire 8 Conference
Championship game. The victory ensured Nazareth
of a berth in the NCAA tournament for the second
consecutive year. Holmberg also made one of five
penalty kicks on Wednesday as the Golden Flyers
advanced past second-seeded Ithaca in the semifinals
on penalty kicks.
Holmberg has been a constant offensive threat
for Nazareth as he has scored four goals and added
three assists during the 2006 season.
The Golden Flyers host Geneseo in the first round
of the NCAA tournament on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
