ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Dec. 22, 2006) -- Danny Gilbertson, who recently completed his third season as head coach of the Nazareth College men's soccer team, has been named NCAA Division III Northeast Region Coach of the Year for 2006. The award is sponsored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and adidas.

Gilbertson guided the Golden Flyers to their finest season ever in 2006 as they finished with a record of 15-5-3, won the championship of the Empire 8 Conference and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second year in a row.

In the NCAAs, Nazareth eliminated three teams to advance to the national quarterfinals before being eliminated by New York University, 1-0.

As one of eight regional recipients, Gilbertson now is eligible for national Coach of the Year honors, to be announced Jan. 12 at the NSCAA awards banquet in Indianapolis.

A native of London, Gilbertson was an assistant coach at Hobart for four seasons before taking over at Nazareth in 2004. He lives in Geneva, N.Y. with his wife Emily and two young children.
