STATS ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (Sept. 26, 2006) -- Nazareth scored all four
of its goals in the first half Tuesday to rally
from an early deficit in a 4-2 victory over visiting
Fredonia in men's soccer.
The non-conference victory boosted Nazareth's
overall record to 7-2. Fredonia, unbeaten in its
last four games, fell to 5-4-1 overall.
After Fredonia's Rob Esposito scored on a direct
kick in the ninth minute, Nazareth exploded for
four straight goals before halftime to take a
commanding advantage.
Sophomore Justin Stevens scored his team-leading
fifth goal in the 16th minute to tie the score.
Four minutes later, Stevens assisted Andrew Wirfel,
who scored his first career goal for the Golden
Flyers.
Freshman Philip Holmberg (pictured) added an
unassisted goal midway through the half and senior
Scott Cavanaugh (Brockport, NY) completed the
barrage with an unassisted goal on a 25-yard blast
with less than five minutes to play in the half.
Nazareth had 10 of its 11 shots in the first
half, but kept Fredonia frustrated until Steve
Tamtakiridis scored with less than three minutes
to play.
Nazareth senior Alex Kilroy made four saves in
goal, while Steve Bergen made three saves for
Fredonia.
Nazareth returns to action Saturday for an Empire
8 Conference game at St. John Fisher at 1 p.m.
