Golden Flyers improve to 8-2 with third straight
win

STATS ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2006) -- Visiting Nazareth overcame
an early deficit as the Golden Flyers rallied
for a 4-1 men's soccer victory over St. John Fisher
at Growney Stadium Saturday.
The victory was Nazareth's third in a row and
boosted the Golden Flyers' overall record to 8-2.
Nazareth is 2-1 in Empire 8 Conference games.
St. John Fisher fell to 1-9 overall and 1-2 in
the Empire 8.
Four different players scored for the Golden
Flyers, who also got a pair of assists from freshman
Philip Holmberg and a goal and an assist from
senior Andrew Wirfel (pictured).
Fisher got a goal just 42 seconds into the match
as Anthony D'Angelo scored unassisted for his
fifth goal of the season. Nazareth tied the score
in the 12th minute as Wirfel scored his second
goal of the season off an assist from Holmberg.
Senior Ben Kabat then scored the go-ahead goal
in the 24th minute with Holmberg again assisting.
The Golden Flyers scored twice more in the second
half. Senior Scott Rigney scored his fourth goal
of the season in the 76th minute as he headed
in a pass from Ed Babcock. Wirfel also earned
an assist as he started the play on a corner kick.
About three minutes later, junior Chad Kies delivered
his first goal of the season on another header
off a pass from sophomore Troy Gotham.
Each team had 12 shots with Nazareth goalie Alex
Kilroy playing all 90 minutes and making seven
saves. Nazareth returns to action Tuesday for
a non-conference game at Daemen College at 4 p.m.
