N.Y. (Sept. 23, 2006) -- Nazareth won its first
Empire 8 Conference game of the season in men's
soccer Saturday as the visiting Golden Flyers
blanked Elmira, 2-0.
The Golden Flyers outshot Elmira 28-2 and scored
once in each half on the way to their sixth win
of the season (matching last season's win total)
against two losses. Nazareth is 1-1 in conference
games. Elmira fell to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the
Empire 8. The victory was Nazareth's sixth straight
over Elmira in men's soccer.
Nazareth had 15 shots and five corner kicks in
the first half, but couldn't get on the scoreboard
until seven minutes remained as sophomore Justino
Flores (Schalmont HS/Schenectady, NY) scored his
first career goal off an assist from sophomore
Troy Gotham (Mynderse Academy/Seneca Falls, NY).
The Golden Flyers added a second goal before
the second half was two minutes old. After an
Elmira foul in the penalty area, senior Ed Babcock
(pictured, Geneseo HS/Geneseo, NY) converted the
subsequent penalty kick for his second goal of
the season. Senior Alex Kilroy (Spencerport HS/Spenceport,
NY) got credit for his 14th career shutout as
he played all 90 minutes and made one save.
Nazareth returns to action Tuesday for a non-conference
home game against Fredonia at 4 p.m. |
