ELMIRA, N.Y. (Sept. 23, 2006) -- Nazareth won its first Empire 8 Conference game of the season in men's soccer Saturday as the visiting Golden Flyers blanked Elmira, 2-0.

The Golden Flyers outshot Elmira 28-2 and scored once in each half on the way to their sixth win of the season (matching last season's win total) against two losses. Nazareth is 1-1 in conference games. Elmira fell to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the Empire 8. The victory was Nazareth's sixth straight over Elmira in men's soccer.

Nazareth had 15 shots and five corner kicks in the first half, but couldn't get on the scoreboard until seven minutes remained as sophomore Justino Flores (Schalmont HS/Schenectady, NY) scored his first career goal off an assist from sophomore Troy Gotham (Mynderse Academy/Seneca Falls, NY).

The Golden Flyers added a second goal before the second half was two minutes old. After an Elmira foul in the penalty area, senior Ed Babcock (pictured, Geneseo HS/Geneseo, NY) converted the subsequent penalty kick for his second goal of the season. Senior Alex Kilroy (Spencerport HS/Spenceport, NY) got credit for his 14th career shutout as he played all 90 minutes and made one save.

Nazareth returns to action Tuesday for a non-conference home game against Fredonia at 4 p.m.
