N.Y. (Dec. 1, 2006) -- Sophomore sweeper Mohammed
Ahamed (far right) and senior goalie Alex Kilroy
are first-team representatives for Nazareth on
the 2006 NCAA All-Northeast Region teams for men's
soccer. The all-region teams are sponsored by
the National Soccer Coaches Association of America
and adidas.
Ahamed, of the Bronx, N.Y. and a graduate of
Martin Luther King High School, started all 23
games for the Golden Flyers in 2006 and was earlier
honored as the Empire 8 Conference's Defensive
Player of the Year. Ahamed was one of the key
contributors who helped the Golden Flyers limit
opponents to fewer than one goal per game.
Kilroy, of Spencerport, N.Y. and a graduate of
Spencerport High School, was a four-year starter
in goal for the Golden Flyers. In 2006, he played
more than 2,100 minutes in 23 starts and produced
a 0.93 goals-against average with 126 saves and
a school-record eight shutouts.
Ahamed and Kilroy guided the Golden Flyers to
their best season ever in 2006. In addition to
winning a school-record 15 games, the Golden Flyers
won the championship of the Empire 8 Conference
and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA
Division III Tournament.
