Saxons snap Golden Flyers' four-game win streak

ALFRED, N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2006) -- Host Alfred used a pair of first-half goals Saturday evening to defeat Nazareth in men's soccer, 2-0.

Nazareth fell to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in the Empire 8 as Alfred snapped the Golden Flyers' four-game winning streak with the upset victory. Alfred 2-2 in league play and 4-5-3 overall.

Alfred scored four minutes into the contest when sophomore Gavin Beem intercepted a pass at midfield and took it the distance for the score. In the 25th minute, Beem made his presence known again by hitting junior Adam Long with a pass in front of the net setting up the score.

Senior Brian Middleton went the distance in goal, making seven saves and earning the shutout. Alex Kilroy added six saves for the Golden Flyers.

Nazareth returns to action Tuesday for a non-league game against SUNYIT at Golden Flyer Stadium at 4 p.m.
