NAZARETH UPSETS NO. 16 WILLIAM SMITH, 17-8
Golden Flyers improve to 11-1, host UR Saturday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 25, 2007) -- Junior Allison Bayer (pictured, Corning East HS/Corning, NY) scored a career-high four goals Wednesday as host Nazareth scored a mild women's lacrosse upset over 16th-ranked William Smith, 17-8.

The non-conference win was the ninth straight for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 11-1 overall. William Smith is 9-5 overall.

Ten different players scored for the Golden Flyers , including Tia Morgia (Watertown HS/Watertown, NY) and Caity Richardson (Pittsford Mendon HS/Pittsford, NY), who each had two goals and three assists; and Caitlin Zimmer (East Rochester HS/East Rochester, NY), who contributed one goal and four assists.

William Smith's Jessica Scott (Waynflete School/Portland, ME) scored the game's first goal before Nazareth rattled off the next four scores and never trailed thereafter. Bayer started the flurry with an unassisted goal and Richardson followed with a goal off an assist from Beth Quartier (Cicero-North Syracuse HS/Cicero, NY). Nazareth's next goal came on a free-position shot by Morgia, who then assisted Sarah Mack (Cortland HS/Cortland, NY) on a goal that gave the Golden Flyers a 4-1 lead.

Sarah Goodkind (Millbrook School/Riverside, CT) and Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, MA) each scored for the Herons to draw William Smith within 4-3, but Nazareth closed the first half with three straight goals to take control, 7-3. Zimmer had assists on goals by Quartier and Bayer and scored the seventh goal off an assist from Morgia.

Nazareth continued to dominate in the second half as Bayer and freshman Jennifer Young (Marcellus HS/Marcellus, NY) each scored twice. Nazareth also got second-half scores from Quartier, Morgia and Richardson as well as freshman Nora Davis (Bishop Ludden HS/Syracuse, NY), sophomore Katie Schneeberger (Watertown HS/Watertown, NY) and senior Jessica McArdle (Lancaster HS/Depew, NY).

Fitzgerald scored her second goal of the game in the second half for the Herons, who also received two goals from Sarah Dillon (Blair Academy/Oldwick, NJ).

Nazareth relied on a 35-21 edge in shots and got 10 saves in goal from sophomore Maria Fusco (Immaculate Heart Central/Watertown, NY). William Smith's Morgan Baird (Pingree School/Gloucester, MA) made nine saves.

Nazareth closes out its regular-season schedule Saturday with a non-conference home game against Rochester at 1 p.m.
