CANTON,
N.Y. (March 16, 2007) -- Senior Beth Quartier
recorded a career-best seven points on three goals
and four assists Friday to lift visiting Nazateth
to a 12-7 women's lacrosse victory over St. Lawrence.
Nazareth overcame freezing temperatures that
featured a wind chill in the teens to win its
second game of the season without a defeat. St.
Lawrence was playing its first game of the season.
"It was one of the coldest games I've ever
been involved in," said Nazareth Coach Sue
Behme, "but the kids didn't let the weather
effect their play."
Quartier (pictured) had assists on Nazareth's
first three goals -- by Maggie Mullin, Jennifer
Young and Nora Davis -- and then scored Nazareth's
fourth goal as the Golden Flyers jumped to an
early lead.
St. Lawrence got on the scoreboard with 10 minutes
left in the half, but the Golden Flyers countered
with a goal by Tia Morgia to make the score 5-1
at halftime.
After St. Lawrence scored the first goal of the
second half, Nazareth rattled off six straight
goals in a dominant seven-minute stretch to put
the game away. Quartier and Morgia each scored
twice during the stretch while Young and Jessica
McArdle also scored. Davis scored Nazareth's 12th
goal off an assist from Quartier.
Sophomore Maria Fusco played the first 56 minutes
in goal and had eight saves.
Nazareth returns to action Thursday for another
non-conference game at Hamilton at 4 p.m.
