NAZARETH TOPS RIT, 7-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 11, 2007)—Senior Tia Morgia (pictured) scored two goals while senior Beth Quartier added a goal and an assist to help lead Nazareth to a 7-2 victory over visiting RIT in an Empire 8 Conference game.

With the victory, the Golden Flyers improve to 6-1 overall and remain undefeated in the Empire 8 with a record of 3-0. The Tigers drop to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

The Golden Flyers took control about 10 minutes into the game. Junior Allison Bayer scored the first goal off a pass from Quartier with 20:09 remaining. Quartier then scored just over a minute later when senior Sarah Mack found her with a pass. Sophomore Shannon Lattimore made it 3-0 after connecting on a free position shot with 9:44 left in the half. Morgia added an unassisted goal with 7:58 to play in the half to give Nazareth a 4-0 lead. The Tigers cut the Golden Flyers’ lead to 4-1 before the half ended as Eileen Hennigan scored for RIT.

Junior Caity Richardson extended Nazareth’s lead to 5-1 with a goal midway through the second half. The Tigers answered back as Hennigan recorded her second goal of the night to cut Nazareth’s lead to 5-2 with 14:49 to play. Morgia and senior Caitlin Zimmer secured the victory as Morgia added her second goal of the game and Zimmer recorded her first with about 10 minutes remaining.

Nazareth held an advantage in shots (32-14), ground balls (28-11), and draw controls (7-4). The Golden Flyers also forced 27 RIT turnovers while committing 18 turnovers themselves.

The Golden Flyers play two home games this weekend -- Saturday vs. Utica at 12 p.m. and Sunday vs. Hartwick at 2 p.m.
