NAZARETH DEFEATS ITHACA, 11-7

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 7, 2007) -- Senior Tia Morgia (pictured) and junior Caity Richardson each scored two goals Saturday as Nazareth defeated visiting Ithaca 11-7 in an Empire 8 Conference game.

Nazareth improved to 5-1 overall, including 2-0 in the Empire 8. Ithaca is 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the Empire 8 as the Bombers suffered their first conference.

The Golden Flyers sprinted out to a 2-0 lead after Morgia and Richardson scored in the first 4:05 of the game. Sophomore Maggie Mullin and Morgia each added an additional goal to stretch Nazareth's lead to 4-0 with 18:12 remaining in the first half.

Ithaca responded quickly with three unanswered goals as Kim Medla scored followed by two goals from Asti Kutzer to cut Nazareth's lead to 4-3 with 14:21 to play in the half. The Golden Flyers and Bombers then traded the next four goals with freshmen Jennifer Young and Nora Davis scoring for Nazareth and Asti Kutzer and Sarah Knauf recording goals for Ithaca. Junior Allison Bayer scored off a pass from senior Beth Quartier with 2:55 left in the first half to give Nazareth a 7-5 halftime lead.

The Golden Flyers took control early in the second half after Richardson and Young each scored their second goal of the game to give Nazareth a 9-5 lead. Medla recorded her second goal of the game for Ithaca to cut the deficit to three goals with just over 13 minutes remaining in the game. However, Bayer and junior Rachel Baranello answered for the Golden Flyers to give Nazareth an 11-6 lead late in the second half.

The Golden Flyers return to action Wednesday for another Empire 8 Conference home game against RIT at 7 p.m.
