N.Y. (April 15, 2007) - Freshman Jennifer Young
scored a career-high four goals Sunday as Nazareth
remained unbeaten in Empire 8 Conference women's
lacrosse action as the Golden Flyers defeated
visiting Hartwick, 14-9.
The game marked the 100th career victory for
Nazareth head coach Sue Behme (pictured), now
in her eighth season with the Golden Flyers. Including
Nazareth's 8-1 overall record in 2007, Behme has
a record of 100-32 with the Golden Flyers. Her
overall coaching record of 121-54 includes four
seasons as head coach at Geneseo.
Against Hartwick, Nazareth won its 18th straight
Empire 8 Conference game as the Golden Flyers
built an 11-2 lead early in the second half. Hartwick
came back to score seven of the next nine goals
to close within 13-9 with three minutes to play,
but Nazareth's Nora Davis sealed the win with
an unassisted goal with :17 left.
Young scored three times for Nazareth in the
first half as the Golden Flyers led 9-2. Senior
Caitlin Zimmer scored twice in the opening half
while Allison Bayer, Beth Quartier, Maggie Mullin
and Liz Wells also scored.
Davis and Young opened the second half with goals
to extend Nazareth's lead to 11-2. Hartwick came
back with consecutive goals by Katie Thorpe, Kelsey
Campbell and Jenev Schilling with close within
11-5. Freshman Lauren Kostuk interrupted the string
by scoring her first career goal for Nazareth,
but Hartwick's Jessica DeBrita answered with an
unassisted goal just 40 seconds later.
Freshman Korinne Smith also netted her first
career goal for Nazareth in the second half to
give Nazareth a 13-6 lead with seven minutes left.
Hartwick used another three-goal run (Campbell,
Thorpe and Jamie Boulton scored) to pull within
13-9, before Davis' goal for Nazareth closed out
the scoring.
Campbell and Thorpe each finished with three
goals and one assist for Hartwick. Nazareth had
a 31-18 edge in shots with sophomore Maria Fusco
making four saves for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth's next game is Friday at St. John Fisher
at 4 p.m.
