CLINTON,
N.Y. (March 22, 2007) -- Nazareth's women's lacrosse
team had an 18-game regular-season win streak
snapped Thursday by 14th-ranked Hamilton as the
host Continentals rallied from an early deficit
to defeat the Golden Flyers, 8-6, in a non-conference
game.
Nazareth had won its last four regular-season
games in 2005, all 12 of its regular-season games
last season and its first two games of 2007. The
Golden Flyers' last regular-season loss was at
Hamilton, 7-6, on April 12, 2005.
In Thursday's game, Nazareth's Beth Quartier
(pictured) scored four goals, including the Golden
Flyers' first three of the game to give the visitors
a 3-2 advantage with 11:30 to play in the first
half. Hamilton, however, scored twice before the
first half ended and never trailed again. Jen
McGowan and Kaillie Briscoe each converted free-position
shots, the latter coming with 23 seconds left
in the half to give the Continentals a 4-3 lead
at the break.
Briscoe scored again to open the second half
and Nazareth was able to pull within one goal
on two occasions -- on goals by Quartier and Tia
Morgia, but Hamilton got goals from Liz Rave and
Liz Longley to extend its lead to 8-5 with six
minutes left.
Quartier's four goals extended her season total
to nine. Morgia and freshman Jennifer Young each
contributed one goal and two assists. Sophomore
goalie Maria Fusco had eight saves.
Nazareth is off until March 31 when the Golden
Flyers play their first home game against Rensselaer
at 12 p.m.
