Empire 8 announces all-conference teams

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (May 9, 2007) -- Seniors Beth Quartier and Tia Morgia were honored as first-team selections with today's announcement of the 2007 Empire 8 Conference all-star teams for women's lacrosse. The all-star teams were selected through voting among the league's eight head coaches.

Five other Nazareth players were chosen to the second team: senior midfielder Caitlin Zimmer, senior defenders Sarah Mack and Liz Wells, sophomore defender Hannah Brennan and sophomore goalie Maria Fusco. Junior midfielder Caity Richardson was named honorable mention.

Quartier, an attacker from Cicero, N.Y. and a graduate of Cicero-North Syracuse High School, was a second-team selection in 2006 and a first-team choice in 2005. She ranked second on the Nazareth team in scoring in '07 with 35 points on 25 goals and 10 assists. Morgia, of Watertown, N.Y. and a graduate of Watertown High School, is a first-team selection for the third year in a row. She leads the Golden Flyers in scoring with 50 points on 34 goals and 16 assists. She ranks seventh all-time in career scoring with 153 points, including 90 goals.

Zimmer, of East Rochester, N.Y. and a graduate of East Rochester High School, is the Golden Flyers' top scoring midfielder with 27 points on 19 goals and eight assists. Mack (Cortland HS/Cortland, NY), Wells (Ithaca HS/Ithaca, NY) and Brennan (Penn Yan Academy/Penn Yan, NY) started regularly as defenders for the Golden Flyers in 2007 and contributed to one of the nation's best defenses that limited opponents to an average of 6.12 goals per game. Fusco (Immaculate Heart Central/Watertown, NY) has started all 15 games and has a 5.72 goals-against average and a .566 save percentage.

Richardson, of Pittsford, N.Y. and a graduate of Pittsford Mendon, started all 15 games for Nazareth in '07 and contributed eight goals and five assists and led the team in ground balls with 42.

Nazareth finished the regular season unbeaten in Empire 8 Conference games at 7-0 and then was upset by St. John Fisher, 9-8 in overtime, in the conference championship game. The Golden Flyers compete again Saturday in the NCAA Tournament.
