NAZARETH DEFEATS UTICA, 10-4

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 14, 2007)—Freshman Nora Davis (pictured) recorded three goals while senior Caitlin Zimmer added two goals and one assist to help lead host Nazareth to a 10-4 victory over Utica in an Empire 8 conference game.

The Golden Flyers improve to 7-1 overall and are now 4-0 in the Empire 8.With the loss, Utica falls to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

Senior Tia Morgia gave Nazareth a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal just over six minutes into the game. Utica's Laura Keating answered with a goal to tie the game 1-1 with 18:56 remaining in the first half. The Golden Flyers scored three straight goals, two by Davis and one by freshman Jennifer Young to take a 4-1 lead with 8:20 to play in the first half. About a minute later Kathy Waite scored for the Pioneers to cut their deficit to two goals. However, the Golden Flyers were able to take control before halftime as they scored two goals in the final minute. Zimmer scored with 33 seconds left while Davis added her third goal with 16 seconds to play.

Nazareth extended its lead to 8-2 early in the second half. Sophomore Shannon Lattimore scored 2:37 into the second half to make the score 7-2. Zimmer then scored her second goal of the game on a free position shot with 24:13 to play. Keating scored two straight goals for the Pioneers midway through the second half to cut Nazareth's lead to 8-4 but Utica could not come any closer. Sophomore Katie Schneeberger and freshman Melissa George each added a goal for the Golden Flyers in the final 10 minutes to give Nazareth the 10-4 victory.

Nazareth held an advantage in shots (28-12), ground balls (25-10), and draw controls (9-7).

The Golden Flyers play another conference game at home Sunday against Hartwick at 2 p.m.
