NAZARETH DEFEATS RPI, 12-4
Zimmer and Morgia each score three goals for the Golden Flyers

Seniors Caitlin Zimmer (pictured, East Rochester HS/East Rochester, NY) and Tia Morgia (Watertown HS/Watertown, NY) each scored 3 goals to lead the Golden Flyers to a 12-4 win over visiting Rensselear Polytechnic Institute in a non-conference game. Nazareth controlled the tempo early and jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first 1:32 of the game on goals by Allison Bayer (Corning East HS/Corning, NY) and Zimmer.

Nazareth dominated the first half as it outshot the Red Hawks 20-4 in the first half. Freshman Nora Davis (Bishop Ludden HS/Syracuse, NY) and Zimmer each recorded a goal before Morgia scored two goals later in the first half to give the Golden Flyers a 6-0 lead at halftime.

Zimmer opened the second half with her third goal of the game as Nazareth stretched their lead to 7-0. RPI would get on the board next with their first goal of the game by Sam Fennessey with 27:01 to play.

Nazareth answered quickly as Morgia, Jessica McArdle (Lancaster HS/Depew, NY), and Shannon Lattimore (Auburn HS/Auburn, NY) each scored one goal to give the Golden Flyers a 10-1 advantage with 20:20 to play. Emily Donowick and Fenessey answered with goals to cut RPI's deficit to 10-3 but the Red Hawks never threatened the Golden Flyers' lead. Allison Bayer Corning East HS/Corning) and Maggie Mullin (Irondequoit HS/Rochester, NY) each scored for Nazareth to give the Golden Flyers a commanding 12-3 lead with 6:05 to play. Sabrina Alimi scored with :52 to cut the final score to 12-4.

Nazareth outshot Rensselaer 32-14 for the game and had a slight 21-18 advantage in ground balls. Maria Fusco (Immaculate Heart HS/Watertown, NY made six saves in about 52 minutes of playing time to record the victory for Nazareth.

The Golden Flyers travel to Elmira for their first Empire 8 Conference game Friday, April 6th at 4 p.m..
