NAZARETH STUNNED BY COLORADO COLLEGE, 12-11
Golden Flkyers (13-3) lose 9-0 lead, fall in overtime

SALISBURY, Md. (May 12, 2007) – Robin Harvey scored with 17 seconds remaining for Colorado College to give the Tigers a 12-11 sudden victory over the Golden Flyers in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Salisbury, Md. The defeat eliminated the Golden Flyers from the tournament and completed their season at 13-3 overall.

Nazareth had a 9-0 lead in the first half before settling for a 9-2 advantage at halftime. Colorado College stormed back to tie the score at 10-10 at the end of regulation. The teams each scored once in the first two overtimes before resorting to the final three-minute sudden victory period.

Freshman Jennifer Young gave Nazareth an 11-10 lead with two seconds left in the first overtime session. Harvey answered with 1:28 left in second overtime session to tie the score at 11 before she scored the eventual game-winning goal.

Colorado College improved to 12-5 overall and plays again Sunday against host Salisbury at 1 p.m.

The Golden Flyers sprinted out to a 9-0 lead in the first 25 minutes of the game. Junior Caity Richardson ignited Nazareth’s offense as she scored the first of her two goals just 1:33 into the game. Senior Beth Quartier and freshman Nora Davis each recorded two goals for the Golden Flyers during their scoring run. Senior Tia Morgia, sophomore Maggie Mullin, and Young each added one goal during the scoring run.

Colorado scored with 1:50 and :30 seconds left in the first half to cut its deficit to 9-2 at halftime. The Tigers continued their scoring run into the second half as they scored four consecutive goals in the first seven minutes to cut Nazareth’s lead to 9-6.

Mullin added her second goal of the game with 20:29 to play to increase Nazareth’s lead to 10-6. Colorado made it a three-goal game with 7:32 to play on an unassisted goal from Katie Fitzgerald. The Tigers then scored three quick goals within a minute late in the game to tie the score at 10. Fitzgerald scored with 2:52 followed by a goal from Mallory Newton with 2:19 left in the second half. Harvey capped off Colorado’s rally with 1:59 left in regulation.

Colorado College had a large advantage in shots (46-27) and a slight advantage in ground balls (26-21). Nazareth held a 16-11 edge in draw controls. Sophomore Maria Fusco (pictured) made a career-high 22 saves for the Golden Flyers in the loss. Jess Van Doren was only forced to make seven saves for the Tigers.
