SPRINGFIELD,
Mass. (Mar. 4, 2007) -- Freshman attackman Erinn
O'Hara (Camillus, NY) scored three goals while
senior Jordan Hirsch (Montrose, NY)
recorded two goals and two assists to help 12th-ranked
Nazareth to a 10-9 non-conference victory against
host Springfield. With the victory, Nazareth
improves
to 2-0 while 17th-ranked Springfield falls to
0-2 with the loss.
The Golden Flyers seemed to have the game in
control when they took a 9-3 lead into the fourth
quater, but Springfield came storming back to
threaten Nazareth's lead. Jake Beebe scored
twice
in the first three minutes for Springfield before
senior Kevin Kimball (Framingham, MA), who scored
two goals and added an assist, answered for Nazareth
with the eventual game-winning goal with 11:12
to play.
The Pride would score four goals, three by Tyler
Montgomery, in under six minutes to cut the
Golden
Flyers' lead to 10-9 with 2:02 to play. However,
the Golden Flyers defense held strong in the
final
two minutes by preventing Springfield from getting
any good scoring opportunities. Springfield
regained possession with a chance to tie the
game with :30 left, but Nazareth defenseman Ryan
Conley thwarted a last-ditch drive to the goal
by Beebe to preserve the Golden Flyers' one-goal
win as time expired. Senior Pat Mullin
(pictured, Irondequoit, NY) played brilliantly
in goal for Nazareth as he stopped 19 shots,
12
of which
came
in the second half.
In addition to O'Hara, Hirsch, and Kimball, seniors
Conor O'Keefe (Setauket, NY) and Chad Amidon (Syracuse,
NY) each recorded one goal and one assist for
Nazareth. Junior Matt Aloi (Jamesville, NY) added
a goal while junior Brian Lissner added an assist.
The Pride held a 48-37 advantage in shots thanks
to outshooting the Golden Flyers 18-3 in the fourth
quarter. Springfield also had a 25-16 advantage
in groundballs and a 13-10 advantage in face-offs.
The Golden Flyers host eighth-ranked Geneseo Saturday
at 1 p.m. on the artificial turf field.
