NAZARETH
TO HOST LAX FOR ALYSSA TOURNAMENT
TEAM
ROSTERS
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Sept. 27, 2006) -- The Nazareth
College men's lacrosse team will be hosting the
Lax for Alyssa Tournament Oct. 22 for the benefit
of the family of Alyssa Bruno, a six-year-old
girl from Henrietta who passed away from brain
cancer in August. Admission is $5 per person.
Tournament participants in addition to Nazareth
are Division II national champion LeMoyne, Colgate
and the Graph Tex Club Team, featuring alumni
from Syracuse (including Casey Powell), Nazareth
and LeMoyne as well as members of the Rochester
Rattlers and Rochester Knighthawks. Representatives
from the Rattlers and Knighthawks will be at the
tournament and will be selling raffle tickets
for prizes such as game-worn jerseys for both
the Rattlers and Knighthawks, a Brine equipment
bag and Knighthawks tikets.
The event will serve as a fundraiser for the
family of Alyssa Bruno, whose battle against cancer
of the brain stem prompted thousands of well-wishers
to send her birthday cards with a penny enclosed
for luck. Her kindergarten teacher at Sherman
Elementary School in Henrietta, Marcy Mooney,
sent an e-mail asking people to send Alyssa birthday
cards and she received more than 60,000 cards
by the time her birthday arrived Aug. 2. She died
Aug. 24.
Alyssa's father, Chris Bruno, was an assistant
lacrosse coach at Nazareth for three seasons (1987,
1988 and 1989).
