N.Y. (April 7, 2007) -- Freshman Erinn O'Hara
(pictured) tied the game for Nazareth with five
seconds to play to send Nazareth and Hartwick
into overtime. Senior Kevin Kimball scored the
game-winning goal with 3:30 to play in overtime
to give the visiting Golden Flyers the 10-9 conference
victory.
Nazareth, ranked ninth nationally in Division
III, improved its overall record to 9-1, including
a 3-0 record in the Empire 8. Hartwick fell to
6-4 overall and 3-2 in the Empire 8.
Seniors Ryan Hotaling and Conor O'Keefe, and
junior Aaron Civalier, and O’Hara each contributed
2 goals to the team victory, which was Nazareth's
fifth consecutive win. Kimball and junior Mark
Kanellis each added one goal for the Golden Flyers.
In the first quarter, Hotaling scored an unassisted
goal with 13:20 left on the clock to give the
Golden Flyers a 1-0 lead. Twelve minutes later,
Civalier scored with 1:46 remaining in the first
quarter off a pass by junior Matt Aloi.
Nazareth seemed to have the game in control in
the second quarter. Civalier scored his second
goal of the game three minutes into the quarter
followed by a goal from O’Hara four minutes
later to give Nazareth a 4-0 lead. O’Keefe
and Hotaling combined for three goals in a span
of 1:18 to give the Golden Flyers a 7-0 with 4:28
left in the first half.
Hartwick’s Brandon Wilk scored an extra
man goal early in the third to cut the Golden
Flyer lead to 7-1 but Nazareth answered five minutes
later with a goal from Kanellis to extend Nazareth's
lead to 8-1 going into the fourth quarter..
Hartwick began the fourth quarter with a man-down
goal as Ben Schluter scored with 12:37 to play.
The Hawks then scored seven consecutive goals
over the next 9:29 to take their first lead of
the game 9-8 with 3:08 to play. Dan Hushion scored
the game-tying goal with 6:51 left in the quarter
before Lee Austin scored his second goal of the
game to put Hartwick ahead.
Nazareth did not answer until the closing seconds
when O’Hara scored off a pass from Kevin
Kimball with five seconds left to tie the game.
Kimball scored an unassisted goal with 3:30 remaining
in overtime to give Nazareth the 10-9 victory.
Senior goalie Pat Mullin made 13 saves to record
the victory.
Nazareth plays at Alfred on the Wednesday, April
11th before travelling to second-ranked RIT on
the 14th.
