N.Y. (April 11, 2007) – Nazareth received
four goals from junior Matt Aloi (pictured) and
three goals each from seniors Chad Amidon and
Ryan Hotaling to go on to the 17-2 Empire 8 Conference
victory over host Alfred in men's lacrosse. The
Golden Flyers improve to 10-1 overall and 4-0
in conference games with the victory. Alfred falls
to 4-6 overall and 0-4.
Senior Kevin Kimball scored first for Nazareth
early in the first quarter. With 2:30 left to
go, Alfred’s Mark Pincelli scored a goal
to even the score.
In the second quarter, Nazareth took control
as they recorded six goals. Aloi began and ended
the scoring run as he scored with 7:11 and 0:08
left in the quarter. Between Aloi’s goals,
Hotaling scored two goals and junior Steve Cutia
and senior Jordan Hirsch each scored one goal.
Amidon extended Nazareth’s lead to 8-1
early in the third quarter. Nine seconds later,
Mike McCarthy recorded Alfred’s second goal
of the game but the Saxons would not threaten
the Golden Flyers’ lead.
Nazareth then scored the final nine goals of
the game spanning the remaining 10:26 of the third
quarter and all of the fourth quarter to go on
to the 17-2 victory. During the scoring run, Aloi
and Amidon added two goals. Hotaling scored his
third goal of the game and junior Mark Kanellis,
freshmen Mark DeCirce, senior Jim Schultheis and
sophomore Sean Dennison each recorded one goal.
Nazareth had a huge advantage in shots(57-20),
ground balls (52-31) and face offs (19-4)
Nazareth travels to RIT on Saturday April 14th
to face the second-ranked Tigers at 1 p.m.
